I was wondering how everyone else did it. I have a 5 channel kicker amp and a set of Diamond Audio Component speakers ( i will get a 10" solobaric and rear speakers later).

Where is a good place to mount the crossovers??

Does anyone have pics of a box for a RCSB??

 

What rear speakers are you using??

mount the cross overs in the door....unless you want to show them off....

 

I've heard bad things about mounting crossovers in doors....like rusted connections and stuff from moisture getting into the doors. I dunno if it's an issue with our trucks, but I didn't want to take a chance. I mounted my crossovers under the seats. The rest of my install is here, but it's for an extended cab so might not be much help.

 

I always mount mind in the doors. It's common practice in the industry. Unless it's an old car or one with leaky sleas you usally don't have a problem. I've only had 1 instance where my terminals started to corrod. Usually I am done with the speakers or the car long before it was a problem.

I am using the DIamond Audio M661 (now the D661) in all my cars.. In the Z71 I may switch to the Hex speakers only because my employee discount is crazy stupid. LOL

 

When I had my ID's I mounted the x-overs in the doors. The screws and terminals got rusty as hell. Now I mount them behind the kick panels.

 

Mine: 99 GMC Sierra SLE Reg. Cab, Short box.

Because I got sick of hearing the locals tell me it couldnt be done:
I custom made my box, and fit 2 10" Pioneer IMPP 800 watt subs.
I can provide pics, please PM me if you want them.
(And No, I didnt cut the jack stud off - I modded my box so you can secure down the box)

I can also build you one if you like - but it might be expensive to ship.
OR I can give you dimensionals.

I have a US-Acoustics Amp I fixed for a customer(He didnt pay, I kept), and I mounted the amp on the box. I can still retain almost all leg room, and can still tilt my center console up and out of the way, without hitting the amp.
(Pioneer now makes a low profile 12" sub, with 4" of depth...I may build a new box, with the new low profile subs)

I also have a repaired kicker 600W mounted under my passenger seat.
The passenger seat, has that brace that goes across the seat rails.
I drilled 2 holes to mount the amp to the brace, and faced the front of the amp towards the front of the vehicle for adjustment.

The Driver Underseat location is pretty much off limits due to the Air Bag Module.

My rear pillar speakers are Infinity Kappa 4X6 plates, which required me to modify the stock opening. Large magnets in this location do not work well.

My advice, go midrange and highs in the doors, pillars, and then use your subs to round out the bottom end.

Dont forget the most important stuff: Your power and ground upgrades, so you dont toast your body ground out.

Oh, also...if your a Fellow CB user like I am... I mounted my CB to my cupholder pull out tray. Works great mounting it to the bottom, keeps it out of the way, and in full view in the up or down position.
My K-40 sits behind the rear seat, and fits perfect, WITH the box and amps in place.
