Anyone running a reverse Cowl on their truck? I'm debating getting a new hood and if/when I do I'd like to find one that can do a great job of heat extraction since my truck likes to make alot of heat!

The types of heat extraction styles that I think would work are...

Normal Cowl:


Reverse Cowl:


HD Vents:


I open to any other ideas that might be cool and functional!

 

I have never seen that second good and I kinda like it. How would u go about putting vents on a 00-02?

 

Can't go wrong with a traditional hood but it's good to be different,the second hood looks cool but also kinda ricerish at the same time.

 

I haven't seen them on our trucks either, not sure if anyone's made one for our trucks yet and I have no idea on if it would look good.
As far as making it...cut a slice in the hood, hammer one end down, flare the other end up and weld in some strips. Probably roll the ends so they are no longer sharp. Benefit of that is it's up front and would promote AWESOME cooling across the heat exchangers.


You see them alot on imports such as Evo's, Mazda's and even Lotus', however the Camaro ZL1 has one as well so there are muscle cars that sport these kinda hoods.

 

I see what your talking about on the ZL1...I think a regular cowl hood with those type of vents would prolly look good.

I was thinking of modifying the hd hood too and making it functional. Should work alright. X2 tho on the second hood looks kinda ricer.

 

I'm just using that one as an example of what a reverse cowl looks like. That hood belongs to a Mazda so it definitly IS ricer-ish!

There's probably i bunch of different ways to do it, some bigger and more elaborate than others. Just trying to get a feel for what people think and think might work best.

 

I like the normal cowl hood over the others. Maybe even do them vent's posted up in a stock hood.

 

A normal cowl hood doesn't move air out...they move air in. The design was always to draw in cool air from the low pressure area at the base of the windshield to feed carbs back in the day.

What about keeping the hood you have and running a pair of OEM Lincoln Mk8 or Ford Taurus e-fans? As far as I can find there's nothing else out there that pull as many CFM...4000 each...if those were running all the time and you had them sealed up tight to the radiator then sealed your intercooler to the radiator they would be forced to draw straight across the core. A buddy of mine has a pair on a diesel truck pulling through the radiator, trans cooler, AC condenser and an IC and they'll hold a pair of leather work gloves to the IC when they're running.
