Yea I got the blue led's put into my stock gauges and I had that problem but on mine you had two wires on the bottom of the led and had to fold them up so it would get a good connection but I dont know if yours were like that but a few I had to flip around like they said above. Now I have stock escalade gauges and they are doing that so I guess its time to led those up too!

I had the same problem. It's because the clusters were designed using incandescent bulbs and not LEDs (I wish they had been). Incandescent bulbs (I call em heat lamps) have a much more uniform spread of light compared to LEDs which have an extremely directional beam pattern. I played with 4-5 different styles of LEDs and still got the same dull spots (top of speedo mainly). That's when I did the custom redesign of my LED lights. Solved the problem

i used the style that has 4 chips in a perpendicular circle + one on top; they worked nicely.
using the cheaper ones that just have upward-facing chips will result in dark spots for the reasons mentioned above. the upward-facing ones that have a lens to spread the beam out wider end up being uniformly dark because not enough light is emitted from the one chip to adequately fill all directions.

Little tidbit of info for those oem bulb locations in the back of the cluster: the brighter your bulb is (whether it's LED, incandescent, or whatever) when it shines directly up, will make your needles brighter. The more your bulb shines to the side, the more it'll illuminate the background numbers/letters
