Engine Cleaning

I have an L92 LS motor from an 08 Escalade pull out. The motor and trans has about 30K miles on it and before I swap it into my truck I want to get it looking new again.
Currently it is sitting on the ground with the transmission still attached. Does anyone have any good tip and tricks to cleaning all the cast aluminum without messing anything up? I'm not where I can hose it down at the moment but I can take more time with some shop towels etc.
Thanks for the help

Put it in the truck and then clean it. Its gonna get dirty on the install im sure and youll do better with some pressure spraying it off. One of my trucks has over 300K on it but looks nearly new when you pop the hood. Get some all purpose cleaner and douse the motor in it. Let it dwell for a couple minutes and blast it away with a pressure washer. Then use a diluted dressing like meguiars hyper dressing....Good as new!

Here is a chapter from our Instructional Series on engine bay cleaning:
Cleaning the Engine Bay
Even if you don't have access to a hose, our All-Purpose Cleaner and some Edgless Microfiber Utility Towels will make quick work of any nastiness that you are dealing with. A light rinse down with a few buckets of water will clean off any left over cleaner, even if there is no running water available where the engine/trans is stored.
Post up some before/after pics!

I will attest to Adams all purpose cleaner, that stuff is great. I use that cleaner all the time, allot of the time on stuff not vehicle related. I keep a couple gallons of it to refill my spray bottles.

Go to dollar tree or whatever. Spend $5 on 5 bottles of totally awesome degreaser, its yellow in a clear bottle. Get some nylon parts brushes with long bristles and go for it. I will never buy ******* degreaser from a boutique company.
