Default lowering questions

i have heard two different ways to do this. take the rodors off and the front suspension apart to take out the spings, or just turn the rotor put a jack under the control are and losen the ball joint then pop th ball out and pop the spings right out.

It is what I did. Why waste your time with the other?

I used two jacks and removed my lca from the back side to pull the springs out just because I didnt want to fool with the ball joints.

I just unbolted the upper a arm and swug it to the side, lowered it the whole thing down with a jack and swapped the springs. I was getting and alignment right afterwards so it didnt really matter - that ball joint is just too big of a pain in the *** unless you have special tools or a huge *** hammer (I dont)

rear hangers need an air chisel or similar to get the rivets out

Don't bother taking your rotors off. Just don't let them fall into the pavement when doing the spring swap. Have fun getting your springs back in i hate doing front coils, scares me ever since a spring compressor failed on me and dislocated my shoulder...
No wories though man. Just compress the spring in the flat (horizontal) position.

Yeah, the hangers are a pain in the ***. At the time, I had no idea what I had gotten into. Those damn heat treated rivets that hold the factory hangers on are a bitch to get out. I didn't have a lift, so I had to put the truck up on jackstands and cut the rivet heads off with a air chisel. It doesn't feel to good on the shoulders to hold that thing up over your head while laying on your back getting metal shavings in your face. I would never do it again.

ball joints are a pain even with the correct tools some times. so the best way is to do what was mentioned. put it on jack stands and let the susmension all the way down. then undo the back of the lower controll arm. with the suspension lowered all the wat down you do not have to worry about any pressure being on the spring. also dont re tighten the bolts that hold the back of the controll arm till you have the truck sitting on the ground.

the back well it may sound crazy but take the bolts out of the bed and raise it up a bit were you can actualy get some room to work. grind the heads off the rivits and then get a big hammer and punch and beat them out. this is why you want to rais the bed so you have plenty of room to work. remember to be carefull were you aim the sparks around the fuel tank. even with air tools well my air chissle took forever to drive the rivets out.

i have done this a fiew times and this is the easiest way i have found so far unless you can get your hands on a big air chissle.

hope this helps and mabye someone has a better way.
Ryan

o and when do you plan on doing this???

Nah, I'd use an angle grinder, sheild the fuel cell with some card board or something. After you get the heads grinded off, use a good sized drill and a high-speed or higher quality bit to drill them out. They should just fall right off or with minimal convincing with a hammer. Anyway, better than destroying your body with an air chisel, hammer and punch. boot
