My friend is wanting to setup a local car show for the spring. He's got pretty much everything covered but needs some help coming up with different class.
What do you guys think we should do?

If you're going to follow the "official" judging type rules you need to break it into 3 classes:
Stock Class - just as it says, stock (or relatively stock vehicles)
Modified or Street Class - has suspension, wheels, and mostly bolt on mods, a lot of shows will cut this off at anything shaved (shaved door handles = custom)
Custom Class - custom paint, wheels, tires, suspension, engine work, the whole enchilada
Then of course depending on the size of the show you'd want to break those categories up again amongst different categories, either by type (car/truck or lifted/lowered) or even years (1959 and older, 1960-1979, 1980-1999, 2000-present)
The biggest thing (being as I have been asked to judge a few shows in the past) is that you CLEARLY define the criteria to the judges. Use an easy to follow point scale.... I've found it easiest to start every entry in a class out with 10 points, deduct a point for each 'negative' you see. For example, a fully custom truck, bagged, wheels, paint, but stock interior - 1 or 2 points. Messy engine bay or hood closed? - another couple of points. Primered or unfinished panels are a deduction as well.
As long as all the judges are consistent in applying that formula you should have a good experience and a fair outcome which is ultimately what you want out of a car show if you're giving away trophies.

This will be a fundraiser for my school's Junior class. We have donations for raffle prizes from many companies from around the area, like free window tints, free oil change, just some small stuff like that. Also, several offroad shops are giving away accessories like lighting and such. The public will be the judges as I understand it, with ballots for each vehicle class. I think as far as classes goes, he's got street trucks, offroad trucks, import cars, american cars, muscle cars, hotrods, street bikes, cruisers/choppers, ATV bikes(includes dirtbikes, four wheelers, and side-by-sides).
Entry is like 5 to 10 bucks for showing a vehicle. Raffle tickets for a buck, or 6 for 5 bucks. Also, getting a junker car and some sledge hammers, one dollar a swing or 15 swings for ten bucks.
This is just a fundraiser for our junior class put on by the junior council, and will hopefully become an annual event.
Any input you guys have on making this a success will be GREATLY welcomed!!

i think there may be too many classes there that are too specific. i think i would do something like trucks, cars, muscle cars, hotrods, maybe an import class, bikes and then keep your ATV/dirtbike class. if you are going to have trophies or awards maybe have some that are open for anyone to win like best of show, cleanest engine, best paint, and stuff like that. dont over think it and keep things pretty simple.

Mine's not nice enough to enter so I'm just subscribing to make sure I keep up to date on the details because I never know about any of the shows around here until it's to late, lol. I think 454navyss has the better idea if it's going to be small, but Dylan06SS break down makes more people happy if you have a larger group. When I was in school I judged for a car club back home so let me know if you need any help with it. Would love to get out and meet some of the locals.
