Default Bumper Cap and Lower Valence Painting

Another holiday weekend project. Finally getting around to some more color matching. Painting the cap and valance in the lower color pewter of my truck.

First things first. Gotta get the Valence and bumper cap off.

Get the driving lights out of the way. 2 10mm bolts hold them up top.

The valance is held on with the common plastic plug thingies. Pull the center pin out. Grab the plactic wedge up top and squeeze and turn and such till they pop out. Lots of them.

Now onto the bumper cap. Finally figured out how to release it. Pair of pliars and squeeze on the little tabs while pushing or pulling on the cap. Do the ends that wrap around the front first.

Tada... they're free

3 good scrubs with Dawn dish detergent to get the wax, silicone off.

Always take the oppurtunity to clean everything. Washed up the bumper while its exposed.

Now the questions. All the other grained plastic I've painted I've sanded down the grain. I'm really don't want the valance smooth I'm thinking. How do I go about getting adhesion to it and keep the grain without sanding?

The bumper cap can I just fill the grain with high build primer and get it smooth?

Well I'm hoping not to sand. Just fill it with primer. We'll see.

Got the valence done. Nothing special here. Good wash. Wipe down with wax and grease remover. 2-3 coats of adhesion promoter and sprayed with a spray can.

I'm doing this same thing right now. I'm waiting for my primer to dry. I didn't sand it smooth either I'm hoping the filler primer will make it smooth.

Still working on the top cap. Laying the primer thick taking forever to dry to start sanding.

Are you just using spray paint? Or are you using a spray gun?

Spray paint on the valence. Spray gun on the cap.
