Auto Headlight Switch from an '03 to fit in 99-02?
#1
From a thread in the truck lounge, I got the idea of switching the headlight switch from an '03 into my '99 model.
I think we all sometimes would like to turn off the headlights at night without having to turn ignition off, push e-brake in and turn car back on to turn the headlights off.
The '03 model trucks have an auto-on-off type light switch and I was wondering if it would be simple plug and play to switch them out.
Anyone tried this?

Ditto! Id like to do the same thing! I just put HID in my truck and that frikkin auto headlight crap is gonna wear out the ballasts!! On and off with the slightest change in lighting conditions. I want full control of my headlights.

This was my answer in the other thread:
Keep one thing in mind. They did a huge job of rewiring in the 03 models. The factory radio even serves as part of the brain now. You may want to pull yours and get a good look at it. Then go to the dealer and see if the plugs are the same before you spend the money.

My buddy has an 03. I forgot that some of the fun stuff is programmed through the head unit. Ill see if he would let me take out his switch and compare the wiring and plugs.

Be wary of pulling the head unit w/o knowing what you're doing. Being theres information stored in the unit, sometimes they put anti-theft "devices" in them (like in Cadillac's, if you pull the head unit, w/o a proper tool, or code scanner, you're going to fry a strip that sends the VIN #, so the computer knows "ok, here's a stereo, and vin is *****").
Just a word of advice, i didnt wanna have someone say "oh, you gotta pull the head unit" then have someone else say "now i cant start my truck

Dude, just turn your headlight switch to off and press the dome override button three or four times and you'll hear a chime like the one you hear when your door is open and BOOM your lights turn off. It's faster than the E-Brake method and will save you the trouble of installing that switch.
