Which brand of dropstars are you talking about? I did a search on them and came up with a couple totally different designs.

Thumbs up CC Plus

I live less a mile from CC Plus. And it is in Conroe city limits. I have bought a lot from them including my Superchips programmer and my Volant Cold Air Intake. The have great prices some of the best around. If they seem high that is because they do it right. I have two friends that work there and I will never take my truck anywhere else.

Ok since my old post got delete(not sure why). I will say this. With simple hand tools it took me around 7 hours to do my complete drop by myself. If they have an air compressor and 2 guys working on it it shouldn't take more than 5 hours. 5 hours x the normal $60 an hour is $300 for the install. I got quoted $125-$175 by several places to do my hangers, shackles take about half an hour to install, and springs take no more than 1 hour per side.

The install if very easy whether you pay someone to do it or you do it yourself but labor shouldn't be over $400 for this job and the kit shouldn't cost over $400.

EDIT- I guess it also depends what shocks they give to as well. If they give you 4 doetsch tech shocks and align then I guess it's worth it. If not then i'd take it somewhere else.

Stew, you were edited to remove a quote from another post that was edited. I suppose I should have sent you guys PM's, but I didn't feel inclined too since there wasn't any pertinant info in any of the three posts that I edited. If you guys have a problem with it, feel free to PM me and I'll clear up any questions you have within reason. Mainly they were edited because one post was what I considered somewhat rude and uneeded in this section and the other two were quotes of the same post.

As far as the drop goes, this could be accomplished pretty easy in your garage with a spring compressor and some basic hand tools. It would be a good learning experiance and I'm sure if you ran into any snags you could get help from here quite easily.
