It's a 285/40... The 285/35s are in my sig. If you are at a 3/5 and ~35 offset, I would recomend the 35s in the front. You'll have a little more road feel but it will be the only way to avoid rubbing. Part of the ride quality may be also due to the change in tire design. I went from a Nitto 550 to their 420 which is a little less agressive patern.

I'm thinking that would be a nice combo for my next set of tires.

The 285/40/22 will have a tad bit less sidewall than a 305/40/22. The aspect ratio (xxx/40/xx) is 40% of the width. 40% of 285mm will be slightly less than 40% of 305mm's. Depending on how bad you rub, they might just clear. I was running 305/40/22 on my 22x10 on the ss with a 2/4 drop and never rubbed a single time.

years ago had a problem with 18s (it was years ago!) rubbing on a jeep. Put an extra washer or two on the turn stop to limit turning radius a bit. Would this be a possible solution if can't get a tire that works?

Throwing it out there just in case. Best of luck - rubbing sucks!
