22" Tire Size Help

1 Attachment(s)
I have an 03 Silverado with 305 40 22 tires on all around. The fronts rub like hell with a 2-4 drop. I rolled the fenders but they still rub pretty good. If I buy 285 40 22 for the fronts, will it make any difference. Or would I have to go with something with less sidewall. I don't want less sidewall. Thanks guys

Depends on your rim offset. I have 285/40r22s on the front and they rub a little but I'm running a 3/6 drop so you may be safe given the extra inch.

I don't know what I was thinking above. I have a 3/5 drop with 305 40 22 all around with a 9.5" wheel. How skinny of a tire can you go on a 9.5" wheel?

I run a 265/35/22! It's got about a 3 to 4 inch firewall...I like it though! I can post pics tomorrow if you want or you can search iluvjdm on here and it's his old setup on his truck.

Yea I want to keep the 40 sidewall but will step down to the 35 if the 285 wide tire won't clear my 3/5 drop.

Neil - Can you post some pics? I am buying new tires and torn between the 305/35 and 285/40.

Thanks!

On my 2/4 I have no rubbing issues on a 305/40/22 Nitto 420, hmmmm?

I am running 9.5" wide rims on the front and the 285s look great.

Here you go Jason... I don't have any pics of it on the ground right now but here it is up on jack stands.

I liked my 285/35r22s a little better on the front but the extra sidewall makes for a better ride.

Thanks Neil - I have 285/35's and they look good, but ride like crap. I think I am going to go with 285/40, I hope I like them. I can raise the truck up an inch or two if need be, but I want it to ride nice.

Is that tire a 285/35 or 40?
