Default 205/40/17 tires & rims for a fullsize silverado ??

Hey guys

i might get some 17in OEM wheels i think they look nice , I have a question on the size though , it's for a full size silverado
size of the tires are 205/40/17 ! I know it's quiet small for a full size , but for example will my speed counter be affected by that ? i think the total diameter would be much much smaller than what I 'm running now (just some stock think tires) is it legal to switch for those ? or I mean is it possible to go that way ? it might make my truck lower which is a good point for me ! )
Kindly share your opinions or experiences on that ,
(my truck is lowered 4/6)

I run smaller tires than what I'm calibrated for. My speedometer is off by like 10mph (checked it with my gps). It won't cause a problem if you know how fast your goin lol

I went from the stock tires to a 275 55 17 and it threw mine off by about 5-6 mph at 55 or 60.

thanks for your answers , because when looking at them they are really small , small rims & really low profile tires , 205/40 is like the tires of sports car !

DO NOT put those on your truck!! it would look stupid and be very dangerous...a 205/40/17 is less a tire than I ran on my 04 civic si...and it is only 23 1/2" tall and 8" wide...You need something in the 28" + range....In my Sig pic I run a 275/60/17 which are 30" tall and 11" wide +/-

+1 to lookin stupid. Even if the truck was laying on the ground, the tires would still be too small.

agreed 100%... did you even look up the size of a 205/40/17? a bicycle tire is bigger then that. use this calculator and try to stay around a 29" tire..

I've always liked this website for calculating tire size/changes, too. It factors in gear ratios, etc.

wow , ok I see now , thanks for your replys , you guys seems more than certain on that ! I must say i had big doubts , but I thought it could work out , the dangerous aspect of it will stop me immediately on this , i was seduced by thinking it could lower my truck a little bit more by putting smaller rims & tires as I am an eternal unsatisfied with my 4/6 drop & really don't have money & time to change the setup , so I thought small rims & tires would be a great solution , Thanks for the tires calculator sites ! this is going to be very helpful !

but it sounds crazy i am just saying , if stock rims/tires is 30" diameter more or less & that you put those 17in low profile which got a total diameter of around 23 , are you going lower of 7in (or 3.5 maybe i have never been good in maths) I mean it seems crazy how lower you can go with smaller rims & tires ,

Will not choose these for sure but would check somthing like 18 with a little thicker tires
