does the harness just clip right into the 99-02 rear lamp assembly?

 

No...the bulbs are the same size on the 2003 tails, but the sockets are different so that won't work.

You have to use a 99-02 harness for 99-02 tails, and 2003+ harness with 2003+ tails. I have a set of 99-02 tails and harnesses if you need to get rid of some 2003 stuff!

 

so do i have to wire the 03 lamps into the 99 harness??

 

When you buy the 03 tails they come with the wireing loom that plugs right into the truck behind the rear bumper.........

 

Well, not always. I got my 03 lamps from a friend that put euro clears on his truck. I didn't realize that the sockets were different, I just thought that it had an extra light.

You would need to wire the 2003 sockets into the 99 harness to get it to work...but, the 03 harness has 4 bulbs, not three, so I'm not sure how that would work.

BTW....the harness is a non-serviceable part that cannot nbe ordered separately. Start checking junkyards...or places that do utility conversions (that's where I got mine) for an 03 harness.

When i got mine from the dealer they had everything...

If you get them from a dealer, you do get everything.

If you buy them from a private party--like I did--you don't necessarily get the harness.

That's all I was sayin!

 

How much are the 03 taillights from the dealer???

i got the set with the harness for 160 including shipping. SO they do plug right into the prexisting harness. thanks.
