Default 56 or 57 belair

I have been called out by this older guy (im 20) he is bout 45-50? i know his daughter, she has a 05 Yellow GTO LS2, M6. FINE!!

He is restoreing a 56 or 57 belair. not sure which year, if there is a difference?
It has a 327ci, with a Munsey (sp) 4 speed, 3.73 gears, open diff (one tire fire). the 327 has a alum. intake, 650?cfm 4barrel, headers w/3" full exhaust. and his tires are something like 10-11" wide?

What should i expect?
Ill be running the truck in my sig. except with weight reduction and 275/60/16 Toyo Proxes S/T's, my tires that i have on there now are horribly slick! cheap wallyworld tires!

but anyway arent them belairs pretty heavy? and i expect the 327 to be puttin out atleat 325hp??

just wanting yalls input.

Ill get it on video but it will be a tape video so i dont know how to put it on here? that is if any of you guys want to see it?

Im not sure when this guy wants to run?
It will be at my friends farm, where we have almost a full mile straighaway. but we have a 1/4 marked off.

Oh Yea I did learn how to feather it out of the hole so I wont light my tires up. It seems to start off slow but it starts to scream when it gets to WOT. My friend has a 98 chevy RCSB 350tbi, 4x4. he launched in 4wd and i pulled him out of the hole and eat him in the 1/4 by 4.5-5 truck lengths

If his is running real good, i wouldnt be surprised if he beat you. If he is at 325hp then thats more than you are making i would imagine. I would just rac ehim and find out.
A little correction on your friends 98 rcsb, if its a 98 it would be the 350 vortec. Im surprised that you beat him by 4.5 truck lengths too, since you really dont have any big mods. What do you run in the quarter?

I'd say it would depend on his H/C combo. The older 327's could be a power house ( L79 anyone?) but they had to be setup correctly. An intake and headers, even with a DP on the top isn't going to do much for him unless he's got a good h/c combo. Also, they're not known for low end grunt.

He's gonna be heavy. I dunno if it'll be heavier than you, but there's a chance. And you have to factor in D/L loss. I've been tryin to explain this to my roomate for the last month. Thinks he'll be faster than me with a 350 horse motor in his Sonoma. Like I tell him, just cuz you make(insert No. here) that's not necessarily what you're gonna put down. I would expect prolly 270-280 at the wheels, and he's turning some wide meats. Let us know how it turns out.

sorry about that. i was talkin on the phone and trying to type at the same time. i beat my friends 98 by that length up to 100(his cut off and he flashed his lights). and yea i know it has the 350 vortec not tbi.
I have no idea what i run in the 1/4? never been to a track.
Thanks for throwin that out there.

but this guy with the belair.
i think it has the factory cam? and fueler(sp) heads?
im goin to talk to him when i get home today and see when we are goin to do this.

but thanks for yalls input.

I wouldnt mess with him at all..

Basically like beeftip said you dont have every many power mods..

and to compare, I have CAI, CAM, HEADERS, TUNE, NO CATS and the best dyno as of today is 306rwhp 327rwtq

So theres something to go in comparision with, like beeftip said if hes putting down 325 then hes got you.....

I would even go to say if he is putting down 300 and he knows how to drive then he still has you..

I would race him, just wouldnt put any money on it!!!

we dont race for the green stuff.
and it is just goin to be for fun and wasting gas. haha
he has a open diff so im guessing he is goin to start spinning and have to let out??
i will get a vid of if for sure, i might get beat but its goin to be fun. hopefully i have my toyo before we do this?

and when we do get out to where we race at, i go to my friends shop and drop a few hundred lbs. by removing the tailgate, spare, back seat, catback exhaust, put on a very short turndown after the cab. and then i have to warm my slick all terrains up, if not i spin through 1st= no good.

Later you guys ill keep yall updated whether good or bad news.

One way to tell the difference in a 56 and 57 is the tail fin's 56 dont have them the rear feders are more rounded and the 57 comes to a sharp point in the back. As to trying to compair his hp to your hp is like apples to oranges. A good running 56-57 with sbc should turn in the 15s mabey 16s. It would be a good heads up race.
