2000 5.3 vs 80's 383; who'd win?
Two of my friends have been arguing over there trucks and which is faster, I helped with all the mods on the 2000 and know basically what'd in the 80's. Here's the specs, I'm getting sick of there bickering but they refuse to race each other (no idea why). Can ya'll give me some details to the outcome so I can atleast convince one of them to convince the other to race?
2000 esbc 5.3L z71
Mods:
Ported TB
CAI
LS1 dual efans
Pacesetter LT headers w/ true dual
G80 Posi either 3.23 or 3.73 gears? not to sure
stock rims and basic all terrain tires
Tune
Shift kit
3000 stall
80's single cab short bed 2WD
Crate 383 advertised 420HP 450ft/lbs
Open differential
basic all terrain tires
a heavy foot and little driving experience
He may have LT headers (he's thinking about getting them) later on.
What do you all think would happen?

Dig, they would most likely go to the track, it's only 30 min from where they are at. I personally wanna say the 2000, but that's only because I helped mod the truck =)

i would say the 383 would. its 2wd and sounds like its putting down some good numbers. the 5.3 doesnt have that much done to it and in my eyes it is probably a 14.7+ truck.

Those were the advertised numbers, widely known to be exaggerated, most often. But I admit the 383 is a solid motor. 14.7+? That seems a little high, i was thinking low-mid 14's at least, though I'm not a truck expert, I deal in Camaro's. Any opinion's are welcome.

An 80's chevy rcsb only weighs in high 3000's area and so with a 383 stroker making say at least 380 hp, it ought to have a decent sixty foot so it should run in the 13's.. My buddy had a 350, flat top pistons, marine cam, making prob 350 hp with 4.11 gears and 2400 stall and it ran high 13's but he had an 89 model so it was a little heavier, right at 4000 lbs. My money's on the 383..
