My money's on the 383, maybe not off the line but once he gets traction, I think he'll reel it in

My buddy has a carb'd 383 also in a 2wd reg cab with smaller mid length headers, factory water pump, etc.. And it ran a 12.8@103 and it was still missin out.. I've seen first hand what them old school 383's are capeable of doing.. But he was on slicks with a 3400 stall pullin some good sixty foots.. But still over 100 mph, it will be hard to stay in front of it with an ex cab z71

the 80s pick up will win, even if he spins a little he's going to go around the z71. think of how much that z71 weighs compared to that mid 80s truck... not only that the 80s truck will have much more power then a stock z71 with its crate 383.

I dont know why most are assuming he is just going to spin at the line. If he has ANY driving ability he knows to feather the throttle to avoid that.

he's gonna spin. he's going from a bolt on 350 to a 420 hp 383 with a 3k stall and an open differential, he'll either spin or granny launch. ya, he'll get me after some practice for sure, but i might stand a chance on the first couple runs. this all started with him bragging up his bolt on 350. so i started talking **** about my truck. then he got a thumpr cam, don't know the specs. so i got my converter, then he blew his engine up and dropped a couple thousand on a crate engine. ya i'm fighting a loosing battle, but there's been too much talking **** to back out now.

He may have LT headers (he's thinking about getting them) later on.
Just going on what I see..

Jeff.. I'm adamant about not letting him beat you. If he gets you with your currents set up (things aren't looking too good), then I'll pay 50/50 for a 150 shot of nitrous to 'slap on' haha

****. you gonna go a 50/50 split when i frag my tranny? lol. just so you know casey, he's got a 10 pound n2o bottle and lines sitting in his room. all he needs is a bottle heater, a spray plate, and a fill up. i thought about a nitrous system, but i'd just kill my tranny. then i'd have to step up to a built one, then i'd give my heads a once over. then i'm building a 408, pricing turbos ect. a cam is as far as i go with this truck. otherwise i'll have no money for a real go fast truck. if it makes you feel any better, i'll toast him when he gets back next july. he'll still have about the same set up, and you've seen what i'm planning.

But.. but dude! You can't let your baby get beat like that, by another truck at least. Have you even lost to a truck before? I know we don't have the most eccentric variety of trucks in our area back home, but from what I remember, only cars have beat you. You know as well as I that you won't stop at a cam, mods are addicting. And I'm not sure I can just let you beat my camaro next time we race haha, the truck will have become a threat with the stall and cam, I'll have to find a way around getting beat
