Default 2 GTO's In One Weekend! Any Advice...?

Well this was the first weekend that i've had my truck out since a year and a half ago when i tore it down and started all the mods. Needless to say everybody i passed or pulled up next to was trying to race. I pulled up to the gas station and watched the red necks start drooling on their boots. Then i made my way through the parking lot and they started walking toward me so i dropped down the window and the first thing out of his mouth was "YOU NEED A SET OF RIMS, what you got done to that truck "you got a 350 in it, you got it chipped"? HAHA so i told him i had a 370 with a cam and he said "what, pop the hood"? Too make a long story short soon after i had multiple *** holes ask me about my "chip" i said lets race if we're gonna race. So we went deep out on a straight flat country road and lined up. He was driving a 2004 GTO w/LS1. He commenced to heat up his street tires, even though i told him that it wouldn't be much of a race from a stop because there's no way i'd get traction. So we go from a stop and he doesn't even get loose and i set sideways into third gear, in which case i have to pedal out of the throttle. By the time i could get back in the throttle he was a few car lengths ahead but once i got going i made back some of the gap. So the second time i told him that we should go from a roll and he suggested 30mph and i just agreed. Well we go thirty and on the third honk i go WOT. The next thing i know i'm at 45mph with my *** end pulling towards the ditch and he was not pulling at all, we were side by side but due to my relentless spinning even at this speed i had to let out to keep my rear end from going in the ditch. He then got a couple lengths on me and was able to keep the distance. It sucked soo bad i know i'm faster than that but i can't get traction. I knew i shouldn't have took it out without some good tires. What tires do you guys suggest so i can hook up and smoke this goat? Then today after church i was driving out of town and a red GTO pulled out in front of me i followed him and soon out of no where he jumped on the throttle i wasn't expecting him to get on it so after he had pulled a couple car lengths i stomped it and made some of that space up. I must redeem myself. My truck should be faster than them by a second or so.

Is his GTO stock? The LS1's will run high 13's with a good driver. Getting them to hook off the line is the worst part...then they go pretty good. I was not able to keep up with a relatively stock one from a roll when I was in the mid 13's.

I'm assuming his is stock, doesn't sound like he knows **** about his car since he's asking if you were chipped and had a 350, lol. He actually sounds like quite a douchebag, actually. Good luck beating him....I wish I would be able to see the look on his face when a truck beats him. Everyone knows trucks are slow.

I don't think it had anything done to it, but like a CAI. And yes he is a complete douchebag! He did spin but it was just barely, and it also sounds like he bounced off the rev limiter once... but regardless when you have as much power as i do on 255-70-16 Uniroyal Laredo's you can't exactly expect traction. I should have just waited to race when i have tires that will heat up and hook. But this next time i'll put some money on it! I've also got a 05 Duramax GMC quad cab that's trying to race for $100 so i gotta get traction so i can make me some money. What tires do you suggest? I've got a set of factory 16 and 17's so i'm open to opinions.

I don't know much about drag tires. I just put a set of Toyo Proxes on my truck, but I haven't had enough time driving with them to tell you if they would help you.

Yea, I heard the Proxes were pretty good and ive been reading threads about Perelli's... but honestly i don't know if those will do me much good either. I proally need a set of Nitto 555R's or Other Drag Radials... but i don't know what sizes fit the stock 16's and 17's because some of the drag tires are measured in inches and others aren't. I don't have any wheel hop it just squats and spins It sucks cause i'm a broke college student and i'd like to have a set of street tires, 2 drag radials, and 2 slicks for the track, and christmas is a long ways off! hahaha

I had Bridgestone Potenzas on my 440 4 gear Challenger, and they would bite pretty good. They'd save you from needing 3 pairs of back tires.
