The snouts on some of the aftermarket converters need to be deburred around the edges. They hang up going in to the snout.

Look at your original and compare it to the one that is giving you issues.

Oh, I guess I read that wrong! Sorry.

Your new Yank is chamfered, right? I'm not sure why you're having these problems then. Maybe a trans expert can chime in.

Yeah it is chamfered. The converter is my old one, just a restall. So I have run it before. But not with the new billet input shaft, which is my guess for the problem culprit.

Back in the day I had a problem with getting my verter to seat all the way too. Back then we only had hardened shafts and they came with a thin coating that was just enough to have too much resistance like youre seeing. I ended up having to lightly tap the converter on with a rubber hammer back and forth til it finally slide right in.

After a lot of deburring the input shaft last night, I was able to get the converter in far enough to measure the clearance at 0.987", which is within spec. That's without the input shaft seal, though...

One would think that with the price of converters these days that stuff like that would have been done at the manufacturer..

I still have a vision of you dragging the transmission around on your garage floor by yanking the converter cussing at it like dog with his chew toy..

Sorry, I had to share, when you posted that up the other day that was the visual I had.. Glad everything worked out OK and it wasnt anything major.
