Summit Racing's "Project S71" Silverado Build
Summit Racing is home to all-things high performance. That’s not limited to performance vehicles built just for the dragstrip or Main Street.
High performance doesn’t stop where the road ends. We opted to build our latest project, a 2021 Chevy Silverado into a tough and rugged expedition vehicle. Over the course of several video episodes, you'll see the transformation of this Silverado into a serious off-road Overlanding rig. We'll address its suspension, wheels, tires, bumpers, lighting, and bolt-on engine performance. We also added some really cool Overlanding gear like truck bed cargo racks and a rooftop truck tent.
The video above lays out the project, but we’ll be sharing multiple episodes to show the progression of the build. Check into this thread in the coming weeks to see what we do next with our Silverado!

We recently introduced our Project S71 Chevy Silverado Overlanding build. Over the course of several episodes, we'll transform our 2021 Chevy Silverado into a stout expedition rig that includes some Overlanding essentials.
Now, it’s time to get to work. We started with upgrading the wheels, tires, and suspension to handle any type of terrain. The video above will walk you through the suspension install. You'll also get a closer look at the wheels and tires we chose.
Here’s the product lines we chose for this part of the build:
- ICON Vehicle Dynamics Suspension Leveling & Lift Kits
- Maxxis RAZR MT Tires
- Gorilla Small Diameter Lug Nuts
- Fifteen52 Turbomac HD Magnesium Grey Wheels
For full details on the parts used in the build, check out the official Project S71 Chevy Silverado Page on SummitRacing.com. Otherwise, stay tuned in the coming weeks for future episodes!

That would be fun, wouldn't it? While we would enjoy making the truck an absolute powerhouse, this build is geared for the average guy/gal. You know, the guy/gal that has some mechanical knowledge but wouldn't tackle much engine work other than bolt-ons. Maybe someday we'll build a powerhouse truck but for this one, it'll mostly be bolt-ons.

Summit Racing's "Project S71" Silverado Build: (Episode 3)
In the last episode of Project S71 overlanding build, we upgraded the Silverado’s suspension while bolting on an off-road wheel and tire package. Now, it’s time to give the truck a bit more grunt.
Starting under the Silverado’s hood, the 5.3-liter EcoTec V8 gets an air intake system to help it breathe in a little better. Then we put a cat-back exhaust system on to help the truck’s giddyup—while giving it a nice, deep exhaust note in the process. Here are the kits used in this episode.
- Corsa Closed Box DryTech 3-D Air Intake Systems
- Corsa Sport Exhaust Systems

In the meantime, watch the video above to see the installs as the Silverado continues its transformation into a serious Overlanding rig. Stay tuned in the coming weeks for future episodes!

Watching the build videos with the parts used is not for the blue collar guy or gal. The price tag on the parts used is for the person born with a silver spoon in their mouth. Nice parts but not budget friendly unless your willing to go into debt. Unless the guy or gal is living in mom and dad's basement and living off the gubment teet this is not a build for the average joe or jane. I've bought many many parts from summit for my chevelle build over the past 3 years and nothing to this caliber in price and still have a nice street monster. Just saying......

Summit Racing's "Project S71" Silverado Build: (Episode 4)
While we have addressed the suspension, engine, exhaust, wheels, and tires already, it’s time to turn the attention to some off-road trail armor. In this episode, we'll be adding a few appearance items that will also add to the trail toughness of our Silverado.
It all begins up front, where we bolt on a rugged bumper from ADD Offroad. We also went with an ADD Offroad bumper for the rear. Next, are some Raptor rock sliders that pull double duty. They also serve as truck steps making it easier to get in and out of the truck.
You can see all the installs in the video above. Check out the links below for more details on the parts featured in this episode:
- ADD Offroad Stealth Bumpers
- ADD Offroad Stealth Fighter Bumpers
- Husky Rear Wheel Well Guards
- Raptor Series Magnum RT Gen 2 Drop Steps
For full details on the parts used in the build, check out the official Project S71 Chevy Silverado Page on SummitRacing.com. Otherwise, stay tuned in the coming weeks for future episodes!

Summit Racing's "Project S71" Silverado Build: (Episode 5)
So far on Project S71, we have installed a suspension lift, bigger wheels and tires, and some vital trail armor. Our Summit Racing Project S71 Chevy Silverado is well on its way to becoming a serious off-road Overlanding rig. Now the build team is focusing its attention on lighting.
Proper lighting is a key part of any off-road rig, and Project S71 is no different. It now benefits from handy LED light pods in its front bumper, accompanied by a massive light bar front and center. Out back, the truck gets some upgraded backup lights to help it navigate trails and crowded campsites.
But what’s really neat is the wireless switch unit that controls it all. Not only did it make the install a breeze, but it also allows the user to control Project S71’s lights from a smartphone. Watch the install video above and see how it all works out. You can get details on the parts used in this video below:
- Rigid Industries E-Series PRO LED Lights
- Rigid Industries D-Series Dually D2 Lights
- Garmin PowerSwitch Accessory Power Controller
