Grind/mill the mating surface of the caliper bracket or the bracket on the axle to bring it out a hair. Should be better than doing nothing at all.

 

Like I said you will be just fine. Drum brakes do the same thing all the time if you don't replace the drums. The shoes have to wear slightly to match the curve of the drum. It isn't ideal and why you should ideally replace the drums but causes no issues.

 

Im glad I decided to take another look at it. The passenger side is perfect without any tweaking, but the driver side caliper bracket was contacting the rotor, as well as the pad. As far as I can tell I put the flange on that side about 5mm too far towards the center. A few minutes with my die grinder and everything is hunky doory and I can spin both shafts with one hand. I also switched the brake lines to the correct side while I was at it.

Interesting problem though, when I bought this truck it was missing the driver side parking brake hardware, and I couldnt figure out why. Well, I ordered new parts to get everything working and now the parking brake works fine, except it will not release on the driver side until you manually push the littler lever back down....is the spring too weak to return it or what? Ive never seen this before...

 

For the problem with the cable, it could be that it is rusting inside and not allowing to move freely. Mine does the same thing execpt on both sides and I've check everything else so that would be the last thing to check for me.

Thanks for this, makes sense to me since the cables insulators are torn and cable looks a little rusty. Should only be about $25 to replace both rear cables.

 

I think it was more around $50 to replace both but just to busy/lazy to get them done to have parking brakes again.

 

Yea, its not a top priority but while im doing everything may as well get this fixed.

Another correction on that oil pan bolt....turns out its 13/16-16...i hope

 

13/16-16 is what Summit lists.
