What's a heli coil repair kit and what does it do? I think if I tap and die the hole over again that would be me being lazy! Pulling the engine out again would be the right thing to do but I'd rather not at this point, I'll probably be going out to sea within a month so I'd like to get it running as soon as I can.

Its a metal thread that get inserted in place of the damaged threads. You drill out the hole to a larger size and tap it for a larger thread. Then you put the steel insert in there and puts it back to the original thread size. Its Just as strong but better since the steel Thread is less likely to strip.

Heli coil Is actually a brand Name.

Your basically looking for a Thread repair kit. Read this info. Should be able to get it at any auto parts store. If I know the size I can get one for you. Don't make me dig through my Pile of stuff.

I would put a time-sert in it. Its alot stronger the a heli-coil.

Ok, so basically, which one is the easiest to do while the engine/oil-pan is still in (space sensitive) and will last? I've tap'ed a few holes (Mangled I'm not directing this at you but PM if this turns you on...) in my life so I'm comfortable doing that if necessary.
never done heli-coil or a time-sert but definitely up for learning and doing something new!
