I've seen someone slip a jack off that front crossmember before w/o a stand in place. Nobody was under the truck, but it cost him a new oil pan when it fell on the jack...

Glad you didn't have such casualties!

That is always a concern of mine when I am working under my truck. I had the jack stand give out once when I was setting my old truck on it but I wasnt under it. Be more careful net time I dont want you to have to change your name to MoreSquished

what are you using for an assembly guide for torque specs and what not? What kind of torque wrench do you have?

Wow, that sucks about the jack slipping out, glad you are ok.

One thing I always do if working under the truck is keep the frame resting on the jackstands and then just barely raise the jack up until it's touching the front crossmember. That way if a jackstand breaks there is another form of support right there and the truck will not drop far if at all. NEVER leave the truck only on a jack, big no no. If you have to raise it up, make sure to raise the jackstands up and sit it back on them.

That is exactly what I do. I have had one roll back on my chest off of some ramps before. Long story there but I don't take any short cuts any more.

When I started my tech training as a 16 year old, the first thing the teacher told us to do was to practice on raising an old VW on stands.

It was the actual car that the head masters son was killed under during the summer, only using a jack!

This is serious stuff!
As mentioned above, NEVER go under ANY part of a car or truck without proper stands, you simply canīt trust your life to a jack.

No new pics today, I was running around like chicken with his head cut off all day.
I went to bed about 0330 last night, woke up at 0700. Been going all day figuring out where to get the transmission taken care of. Thanks again Joe for the assist lifting the trans into the trunk of my car! Dropped the trans off at a local tranny shop to have them go through it. Did some more bagging and tagging of the parts I took off last night. That's about it, I need a good nights rest, start back up in the AM

This is a very good thread for first timers, like me. Do you have any more pictures of the tranny removal?
