Project $50 LS1
#1
Project $50 LS1
I have hinted around about my build on some threads, but I thought I would make an offical post.
I bought a LS1 short block from a '99 trans am earlier this year for $200 wanting to do a stock rebuild. It had dropped a valve on top of the #1 piston, but just enough to leave marks on the piston. I found a good piston to swap it out the bad piston with, and then found a buddy with a set of good '03 vette LS1 pistons and rods to swap with him for my 99 pistons and rods. So, with the vette pistons, I was ready for a stock build.......but what fun is that? After Thinking about it, I decided to forge it!
I sold the vette pistons and rods for $150, and took the $50 block and crank to Lenmar motorsports in Mansfield Texas for them to bore, hone, line bore, clean, balance, oil clearance, and build the short block. Rings are gapped for 200-250 shot, and 20 psi down the road. yes, one day it will be turbo. I still need to build my trans, and get the TBSS intake ported after the swap.
Shooting for low 12's to high 11's n/a, 10's on 100-150 shot, and 9's on turbo/heads/cam same short block later down the road.
