I know I know another article link but maybe someone is a nerd like me and enjoys reading stuff like this. So I started thinking about designing the intake and was wondering about how to make sure it's large enough for the blower. One idea I had was how to increase flow/velocity in the intake tube. I started reading about flow straighteners/laminar airflow and velocity stacks. I haven't found any articles specifically about increasing flow with flow straighteners etc but I ran across this article by accident. It basically confirms what I was thinking with the radius entry example.

Boosting Your Horsepower - Gettin? Air - Super Chevy Magazine

It's crazy that the radius entry (velocity stack looking piece) on the Nick Williams 102mm TB increased flow over 400cfm from 1380cfm to 1784cfm! Also how the larger TB decreased vacuum and increased boost.

Blowers are very sensitive to inlet pressure loss, which is why giant throttle bodies are worthwhile but on a turbo being downstream it really doesn't matter too much.

This a bolt on bell for a procharger. This particular model has shown 70+hp gains just from bolting it on. The design is wild, but there was a lot of R&D that went into designing it. Courtesy of Steve Morris Racing Engines.

That Procharger bellmouth is awesome. I found some more reading material on those and Venturi style intakes. I wonder how one of the velocity stack/bellmouth/etc deals would perform on a TB in a turbo/centri setup along with the bellmouth on the turbo inlet. Would be interesting to see if it made a difference on those as well even if it's not as significant as with a PD blower.

I think they make a huge difference. I have never had an intake without one...

In fact I slapped a bell mouth right on my throttle body this weekend in an effort to remove any restrictions I have from a super tight radius in my intake tube.

What bellmouth did you use? I see that Vibrant sells bellmouths and filters to fit the larger opening. I also saw that some diesel engine air filters have larger openings that may fit a bell mouth.
.
I also saw this for testing flow at home

The internet has consumed me for the last 2 weeks looking for deals. Saved about $40 on this catch can and another $200 on tons of miscellaneous parts. It has screw on filters, dipstick, drain plug, and -10 inlets. The internal baffle is a piece of aluminum that angles in front of the inlets so the oil should in theory hit it and fall down. I plan on packing it with steel wool and placing a check valve on the lines so it can't be sucked back into the engine.

Looks awesome.

Yes it was a vibrant aluminum bellmouth.

I don't think you'd need the check *****, seems like it could be a restriction to me. Unless you are dry sump or adding a vacuum punp, the crank case will never see vacuum. Cool can though non the less.
