So, since I won't be able to start the engine build till May. I had to find something to get the creative juices flowing. So I got some nice speakers and decided to make some door pods for them. I have only got the molds of the door and rgrill made, just starting.

I had a buddy of mine once build a 5.5 cubic foot box for a single L7. Couldn't figure out why it sounded like hammered dog ... I calculated the ports for it and ported it for him... The look on his face when it hit the first time... priceless.

 

Proper tuning when using a ported box is the MOST overlooked part of so many installs. Most people think you can just cut a hole and stick a tube in it and that is all.

 

I have never had a vehicle with enough space to have a ported box so always went sealed. maybe one day I will put something in the wife's SUV and learn how to tune a ported box

 

I had ported boxes in my RCSB. They were 1.28 cu ft. Which was perfect for my old subs. Then I went to 12's and moved them to my ext. cab. and had to go sealed again.

I had someone bring me a box they tried to port by doing nothing but cutting a hole in it. He just couldn't understand why it didn't work.

 

I remember my young and dumb days. I had my first 12 in a way oversized box, and just threw a 4 areo-port in it because it was "cool". LOL!! If only I knew then what I know now.

 

The size of those ports makes that damn near a free air set up doesn't it?

Am I crazy or are they like 6 inches or so?
