There's a good coating over everything!! Good thing is that I will never have to worry about rust as I have oil from the back of the engine all the way back to where my rear end is about 6 quarts worth. I took a pic of the crack...looks like it nicked a crossmember when the engine was being put in.
Will upload in a little bit.

Ya, it sounded like a lifter ticking to me, a rod is a lot more hollow sounding. So... Who dropped the motor.........

I don't care who dropped the motor or even how it happened, The main thing is that there is no apparent internal damage and is A simple repair.

Here's a pic of where on the oil pan the crack is. You can tell it was scraped pretty good on something. It's in a place too hard to reach for running over something and easily identifiable if it was there before rex put it on so I'm thinking it was done during install.

Here's a close up of the crack.

i thought my oil pan made it on my last engine but also had a small crack similer to your but on the blower return line, luckily i caught it before i installed the motor , shoul dbe an easy swap for you since your 2wd.
