I can't believe no one has used LS9 gaskets with 862 heads, or at least ran into the same issue. Maybe post/search on tech?

You cannot run any MLS gasket if you have the notch on your heads, including the LS9 gaskets. If your heads do have the notch, you must run composition gaskets.

The good news is, used heads are cheap. And now is the time, since it's apart. You really do want to use MLS gaskets if you plan on using FI later on. But if you're never gonna use a power adder, the composition gaskets will be just fine.

Do certain casting #'s have the notch, or is it hit and miss?

Does anybody know if the 706 heads have the same flow numbers as the 862 heads? I've got a guy that might be willing to trade me for my 862 but I just wanted to make sure before I traded him. They should bolt right up right?
The reason being so I can order the better LS9 gasket because I plan on boosting.

Thanks
