High power setups means keep oil out of the intake at all costs. The can will catch most of it, but not all. Unless you use a check valve it will also boost the crankcase. Ironically, the time when the crankcase needs the most venting is under boost, just when the check valve closes.

 

Or you use a catchcan which vents under boost, like mine. But you're right, the can definitely does not catch all the oil.

 

I have a check valve between the intake and can to prevent boost in the crankcase. Both valve covers will be attached pre-turbo to help with venting. My catch can now is pretty much always dry. I am hoping with the addition of the ls6 valley cover the catch can will be even drier.

Also my truck is by no means a high hp setup. It probably only make 5-600hp. I only plan on 12-14psi.

Don't connect the catch can to the intake. Just vent it to atmosphere.

 

Dumb question since I clearly don't understand the pcv system very well but why even run a catch can. I vented both valve covers to atmosphere to let it breathe when it needed to.

 

I've done this on my 87 and the smell was horrible...... at times I smelled like a engine after a 30 mile or so drive I ran them to the intake too its n/a though

Man I coulda swore someone logged inch lbs and putting the vac to pre turbo wasn't enough vac at idle, cruise and wot to really help. Atomic is right, under boost the valve shuts and doesn't allow the crank case vent when it needs to most! The pcv to can to intake set ups like mine and many others on here only works when outta boost. Sob now I need to re think my whole setup and make the can use intake vac when outta boost and once in boost use pre turbo as the source.

 

Best idea, get a vacuum pump to always pull vac on the crankcase. Gives a little extra power too.

 

would one of these vacuum pumps be enough to supply vacuum to both the PCV and a brake booster?
