Default Big girl is getting a new heart

So my truck hit 283,000 miles last week. 02 xcsb z71 with a 5.3L. Original engine 3rd transmission. All the cosmetics are done, taillights headlights new front bumper ect.

At 283k she's beginning to feel tired. Have to put your foot in it harder and longer to get same results. So I bought another 5.3L! With intentions of new gaskets bearings bigger cam that didn't require tuning and polished heads.

That was before I found out the engine I bought for 350 bucks was the stereotypical Craigslist special. Bottom end is trashed. Pictures are attached, I'm gonna say someone sprayed nitrous down its throat to get a few cheap runs down the strip.

But since it's needed a lot more work than I had planned, why not run with it? Gonna have the machine shop punch it .040 over, take .020 off the deck, and make sure the mains are still straight. Put 6.1" 4340 rods into it with flat top pistons. Still going to have the head work done but thinking about upgrading to a 2 inch intake valve. And moving to a .540s lift 112 lsa cam (can't remember exact numbers) installing a water/meth injection kit to keep the charge cool.

Wanted to do something like efi live on diesels where they have 5 settings, one for exhaust dumps closed, spraying water (they're in front of the cats) one with dumps open, spraying water, and same two with methanol being sprayed so we could throw more timing at it

There is no way to do a diesel style EFI system like a bully dog/edge tuner on a gas vehicle like this.

You basically tune it once and get it running how you need it to and safe and that's the only tune that can be on the computer at one time. Meth isn't need on a NA setup either.

Like I said, wanted to. Not required. Usually if there's a will there's a way. And it may not be required, but it does add hp. Even in a N/A set up

You can get an auto-cal and load a few different tunes in it and change them as you need. Not as easy as the diesel tuner idea but it works. I think i will set mine up that the tow n haul is set up for my alky control and normal is without.

Pistons are in. 3.82 diameter (not exactly but didn't want to do the exact decimal) 1.324 compression distance.

Tow haul only controls the trans tables, not the engine.

Actually there is a dual flash chip for the GMT 800 truck style PCMs from ominituner...

With the Key Off, At the flick of a switch you can swap tunes.

OmniTuner Home There are several places that install and sell this mod.

It's not cheap and you're usually better off letting a pro install it.
