Aksss's 408 s480 build
#1
So I am in the process of a new build. I finally have the long block fully assembled an sitting in front of the truck. So I figured now would be a good time to start my build thread. Bare with me when I bring you up to the current build. I have an 03 silverado SS awd. It has had a 370 motor in it since 29k miles, it currently has 77k. It had an sts turbo originally and then when the local borough dropped the I/m program. I immediately ordered the pipes from kbracing to make it a front mount. When I did this I also installed a front mount intercooler into the front bumper. I went with a 31x12x3 I/c. I had to cut and box in the frame to make it fit but it works great with the SS bumper. I also upgraded from a 67mm turbo to a mp t-76 turbo when I moved everything. With just diamond pistons(8.8cr), arp rod bolts and head studs I ran consistent 12.25's all day long with 22" tires in full street trim at 12-13psi with meth. Kb sent me a 3.5" downpipe and I put on a full 4" exhaust all the way out to the stock location. Used a mbrp diesel muffler also. So now just this past November I figured it was time for some upgrades. I was thinking new motor, but decided to just do a cam and intake manifold and fuel system upgrade. So I ordered a cam from btr and a edelbrock pro-flo intake for it. When I dropped the oil pan to remove the oil pump this is what I found.

This is all my own fault. I took my time and used a ton of grease and cleaned my drill bit a hundred times. I still got shavings in the oil pan when I drilled my turbo oil return hole. When I saw that, I decided I had better pull the motor as see what the damage was. I had never had a hiccup from this thing. Never lost any oil pressure nothing. Idled at 40-42psi hot. Ended up that the back two cam bearings were well into the copper. I didn't have time to do this motor so I dropped it off at the local machine shop. So they started measuring everything and I had two pistons that were out of specs. 6 pistons had .006 wall clearance, 1 at .0075 an one at .009. So they told me I need new pistons also now. So I decided I would build this thing as much as I could afford. My wife was on board to let me do this. Considering we had just had twin girls a few months before this all started, she has been awesome. So here is my build list. I'm sure I will forgot some things. Start with the long block -Wiesco 15cc dished pistons (cr should be 9.65 if I figured it right) -Scat h-beam rods w/arp 2000bolts -Eagle 4" crank -New ls7 lifters -New lifter trays -New melling hi pressure/hi vol. pump -New timing set -Btr spec cam should be half mild 230 238 608 586 117+5 -Tfs 225 heads 70cc-worked over by btr -Btr double springs -Btr trunion upgrade -gmpp 4"stroke windage tray -arp main studs -arp head studs(already had) -ls9 head gaskets -I had my valve covers, front cover, valley plate and my truck accessory drive bracket powder coated black -I also tried something else. Piston oil sprayers. We only have 90 octane in Alaska for fuel at the pumps. I figured this might help out a little bit. And keep the heat down from higher boost levels. I'm pretty excited about these.

Here is the piston sprayers being installed
Everything else -4l80 transmission -build kit from patc for 4l80 -precision industries 3200 stall(had a 3k before from them) -05 fuel tank -2 walbro 400 pumps -edelbrock pro-flow intake -90mm ls2 silver blade throttle body -Id1000 injectors -Aeromotive fuel regulator -all the fuel lines and fittings to run a new 8an supply and use the stock supply as return -racetronix dual pump wiring harness -New kbracing hot pipes for s480 in t4 form w/4" downpipe, I had the pipes ceramic coated in a new titainium coating, probably still going to wrap them too -Bw s480 t4 with turbo blanket from forced inductions -jgs 50mm wastegate
I'm sure I am missing things. I will keep adding to this as I remember. Sorry for the pics but they are all on my phone. I am just getting ready to start putting this all together. The long block is sitting here finished. The tranny is finish and built. I need to change the exhaust around a little bit before I put the tranny in. I have some of the small stuff done and ready to go. Some things I still have to figure out is some driveshaft loops, driveshafts (going to use a stock 3/4 ton if it fits, I don't think the rear will though). I will be running methanol on this setup as I did on the old setup also. I have always ran pure meth also. I haven't figured out if I am going to run 2 or 3 nozzles yet. I get all the meth I can use for free so that is nice. Maybe I should run straight alcohol. Haha! My goals for this thing was originally to try to put 800hp to the ground. I am kinda doubting that this will do this. But we will see. I have an awd dyno about 2 miles from my house.

I also think I should have gone a little lower on the compression. My plan is to get this thing running and drive it the rest of the summer, and then this winter pull the heads. I don't think these head will flow enough for this setup. I have another motor that I am planning on putting these on later. And when I do this I will go to a bigger chamber head and hopefully get my compression down to around 8.8-9.0. If I hadn't ran out of money for the time being I would have bought some 235's or 245's. Since I only have 4 months of summer and 8 months of winter I had to get this thing running.

Those heads will be good for 1000rwhp in high boost. This is going to be a cool build and I can't wait to see it running. You have most everything ready to go so this build should go fast. You need a photobucket account btw.

I will work on the photobucket thing tonight. And fix the pictures.

Just jump in line. Lol. Once my SS is done I get to start on the 408 in the s-10. Drop your truck off. I'll get on it after that. You just might not get to drive it for a while! Haha

Just wondering what some of you guys have used for inline filters. I was just going to put a 130gph 40micron inline filter on. Do you guys think this will flow enough with the dual 400's?
Another thing. On my old turbo feed line I had an 4an supply. Is this enough line for my new s480? I'm sure my #10 return will be fine.
Thought I would throw this up to look at. I just set the manifold up to mock it up.

I just had surgery on my ankle today. So next week the install begins. I have so much to do. Should be fun.
