At what point does a 1 7/8 header start to actually hold you back on an n/a LS engine? Looks like most options for stainless long tubes at a reasonable price are 1 7/8.

Got a good deal more done on the koda in the last two days. The driveshaft is done and installed, 1410 joint on the trans side, 4 inch .085 wall tube and a 1350-whatever the **** Dodge used conversion joint on the differential side. If I ever pop the rear end I should be able to reuse this shaft for a trans with a 1350 joint, or weld a 1410 yoke on it if I do something like a shortened d60.

The trans cooler plumbing and mounting is all done. 1/2 lines flowing to a dual row dereale fan cooler with a thermostatic switch. I just need to finish wiring it.

I bought a lokar steering column cable shifter kit to adapt the Dodge column shifter from my parts truck to the 4l80. Looks like I'll be able to use most of the parts included in the kit for a simple install. It will be interesting to see how well the 3 speed gate on the column shifter works with the 4 speed GM trans. So far it looks like everything lines up OK. The GM requires less stroke on the cable so the Dodge column should work fine for the shifter throw.

The major things left to do are to plumb my fuel system (small msd pump and ls1 regulated filter), finish the exhaust, make some kind of lower radiator hose and finish any wiring I need. Unfortunately my conversion EFI harness will not be here untill next week.

well my s10 is only 371 cid(6.0 0.040 over) with 1 7/8 headers dual 3" exhaust, 4l60e with 4500 stall, and a 8.6 with 3.42 gears. It dyno 500 rwhp on motor when it was a 370 cid, so I think you be ok with 1 7/8 headers. I don't know of any company that makes a bigger header that goes inside the frame rails for a s10. hope this helps and keep posting up man. am going to do some measurements on that 03 dodge ram and see what headers might fit with a ls1 swap.

^it would be cool to see a fulsized ram with an Ls, just for the butthurt factor.

Got the exhaust 90% done today. Only need to finish a tailpipe. Also have the cable for the trans shifter done completely, very happy with how that turned out. The cable setup is very rigid and it gives a good feel of the detents in the 4l80.

Column side, with "forgot to turn the gas on" weld boogers

Got a good amount done today. Bought a cheepo intake kit from advanced, got that checked off the list. The exhaust is finally done, not pretty, but it will get me by untill I get a nice set of headers and a fuel cell so that I can run true duals. The cooling system is done, had enough spare hoses laying around to make something work. The bleeder from the heads is routed into the upper radiator hose. I had to heat and bend the stock transmission dipstick tube pretty seriously to get it to work in the truck, but it came out OK. Also modified the stock cable throttle bracket to work with the Koda cable, it pulls off the normal cruise control pivot on the T/B

Main things on the list now are the fuel system, rethinking my transmission cooler lines, routing all the vaccume hoses, wiring the trans cooler and some other small bits. It looks like I'll be doing OK to get the truck done tomorrow besides having the EFI harness.

215/65/15 snow tires and a 3.5 inch tailpipe do not look like they belong together.

Got a bunch done today with the help of my father and friend Chris. The fuel system is done besides hooking it up to the relay that is provided with my EFI harness. Same with the electric fan for the radiator. The fan cooler for the transmission is fully wired up but still needs some rethink on cooling line routing. Also took the time to chase down the stock wiring harness in the truck and found out that there was a ground circut for the starter relay that ran through the computer, and a ground for the interior that was missing, with those figured out the truck cranks as it should and it looks like I'm ready to start.

The last major issue is figuring out a good vaccume source on the truck. This manifold has the rear vaccume outlet for boosted brakes blocked, and just the front fuel tank vent switch that I need to figure out how to eliminate, and use as my vaccume source for the truck.

Finally back to work this week so progress will be little to none untill next weekend

I know I'm late to the party but the 1 7/8" wont be a concern with a 6.0 NA. You can go pretty damn extreme. I know a blower is a different ball game completely, but exhaust pressure and scavenging are still a concern. Guys with 1 7/8" primaries and 4" tailpipes running 15PSI are still seeing no measurable backpressure with a basic pressure gauge. That tells me you should be in a similar situation. Enough volume to create velocity and help scavenging, but not enough to create pressure and screw it up. I would bet a 1 7/8" into dual 3" that either stays that way, or Y's into a single 3.5 will be your best bet for big NA power. Dual equal length 3" with an x pipe will sound out of this world...

Good to know, especially since those stainless works headers look to be some of the only stainless headers that I can find that look like they want to fit.

Come spring when all the parts are together I'll redo the exhaust with true duals.
