Default 53 Chevy truck

I need drivetrain recommendations for a 53 Chevy Truck I'm building for my son. He turns 16 in January. Don't need a ton of horsepower but want a solid, reliable platform that we can build on.

This is what we started with

This is what we ended up with

We're making it into an extended cab. Going to set it down on an Art Morrison chassis with air bags. It will have an IFS and the rear will be a triangulated 4 link with a 9".

I'd throw a 5.3 in it, not to much for a 16 year old but has a lot of potential. And i just happen to have a 5.3 with only 5000 miles on it. You should buy it. It's going to be an awesome project for sure.

That was going to be my suggestion, just a drop out 5.3/4l60 combo retaining the EFI would get pretty good mileage in that and be dead reliable for years.

I was thinking 5.3 also. That's what's in my Suburban and he drives it to school (with me since permit) and it has a blower on it. I figure a stock one would be good. What year is yours Dirty? What you want for it?

I would agree with these guys. 5.3 would be perfect.
