4.8 to 5.3
#1
It has begun. Bought an engine hoist today. Got the 5.3 in the garage and started stripping the old harness and exhaust manifolds off of it. I will take pics along the way if I remember too LOL. Will have the 5.3 stripped and cleaned and the built trans hooked to it by tomorrow afternoon hopefully.

Got the engine stripped down, cleaned the grime off of it. Started pulling stuff off the truck. I had to find all my tools first, just built this garage and broke the new concrete floor in good with some new stains. Fighting with the fan at the end of the day, even leaving the belt on its not budging.

Yes. I gain some torque, it was a decent price, and the 4.8 is tired.
Was going to go 6.0L, but for the price I took the 5.3 for now. I think with the little extra power plus the new upgraded trans, combined with the 4.56s I just put in should keep me satisfied for some time.

I can't find a 6.0 around here for under $1200 or so with decent mileage. You can however find 5.3's aplenty for $500 with decent mileage.

almost ready to come out. Need to remove motor mounts, power steering and ac compressor, and a couple more wires, transmission crossmember. Stopping for now to go buy a power steering pulley puller/installer tool.

From my personal looking around the 6.0 has not moved much in price at all. There is always the ones out there you can get for the steal. Still most of them are in the 11-2000 range, where they have been. yes people are buying them up, but also the reason the 4.8-5.3's are literally cheaper then a new alt from GM.

Sweet - someone else doing the same thing I plan on doing
. Swapping my 4.8 for a 5.3 within the next month. I too was thinking of a 6.0, but can't touch them locally for under $1500
. My 5.3 I got for $200 from a friend. Good luck with your swap, do you know if you need to do the crank re-learn for it or will it fire right up?
