I know....i should replace them all and i will but cost is prohibitive at the moment...need to get it back together and out of where it is so i can change jobs in a week and a half or thereabouts

I went back and you mentioned Comp 918 springs but not sure if that's what you got.

Lots of failures of the comps...

The 918s were a set i had laying around at one point i had on the other truck for a little while with the old xr275 cam i had before i swapped it out.... the springs inwent with were some pep or something springs, used same springs on the silverado and so far have had no issues, since i installed them, but then again the silverafo isnt vvt either

So..... uhhh, yeah i have this nifty little spring compressor that works awesome when the spring arent broken, anybody have any insight on how to get this broken spring off, the tool made the valve open when i started trying to compress the spring, the outer spring is in about 6-7 pieces, so....

Almost majes me want to pull the head off at this point.... but i will save that for when i am not trying to do this at a job i am about to leave.. and have a full set of springs to put on

In total the outer spring was in 5 pieces and the dampener spring ws broken as well

So i have been thinking about this spring issue the last couple days, i am wondering now if that spring hasnt been messed up since i built the engine, there was a bit of a miss i could never really track down and the engine had always been a little noisey which i just attributed to the pushrods..... either way she purrs like a kitten now, just need to find time to swap the timing chain tensioner and be able to afford a full set of valve springs, if for no ther reason than peace of mind!



Not to mention the leaking trans cooler line and fitting and getting the alignment straight on this damn thing.... finally!!!
