I trimmed off some before the threads and when I was trying to drive it out I still couldnt see the end in sight so I just gave up and left it in place. I didn't want to trim into the thread and risk screwing up the bolt.
#74
You don't need to trim any of the treads. Just trim off the unthreaded portion. It won't compromise the bolt. If you are that concerned you could always place a new bolt when you reinstall.

Cool, and I was going too cut it off, but I ended up being able to pull the axle far enough the the pass side and just lower the leaf spring down I wasn't too worried about it after that. I painted what I could and moved on.
#77
Actually that is the way to do it, just lower the spring from the rear. I wasn't able to do that because my shackle bolts were galled/rusted to the shackle and unable to remove. Had to cut the bastards out.
