I actually noticed that and thought wow that pulley is small. I never had good luck with aftermarket alternators, they tend to break at higher rpm, not sure why. Are the ratings based on engine rpm or alternator rpm?

I had a dude thats over on the bullet build the alternator for my truck. I was also wanting decent amp rating as at the time I was pushing 2 magnafuel 4303's, A2W pump, engine water pump, big radiator fan, all the efi **** blah blah blah

I don't know squat about alternators but the dude built it around me wanting to eventually shift the thing near 8000 rpm. He did some kind of shaft and bearing upgrade. He sent it with a pulley and then I posted this picture up.

He was like oh **** and told me to go find a much larger alternator pulley. I asked my engine builder and he about **** a brick too when he saw how fast it was gonna be turning. So I just took the pulley to a local alternator shop and asked them to sort through their pulley pile to see if they could find something bigger. I ended up with this one. It's kind of a queer set up, 6 rib balancer, 8 rib alt pulley and the best fitting belt I could find is 5 rib. It has worked like a charm though so far. I ended up putting around 40 passes on it total before I tore it back down and never had an issue. Toward the end (the last 15 passes or so) I was shifting between 7600-7800 engine rpm.

Per my calcs the alternator is right around the 20,000 rpm range at current shift points. Still high, but it's what I have to work with for now.

Just my .02.........others may feel different.

Yeah ordered a stock size alternator pulley from Mechman. My stock one has seen better days. Anyways I'm still shifting my motor at the same rpm as I did the old LSX and my alternator didn't have an issue then so hopping there won't be a problem on the new one. The new one is basically a redone factory one so hopefully the durability is still there.

Got my fuel tank sump in. I debated about putting a fuel cell in the back of the truck and I might still do it later but for now just ordered up this sump kit from Beans Diesel to run the stock tank.

Thats pretty trick. Didn't know such an animal existed.

I'll never forget the days of seeing people put -10 AN bulkheads in the bottom of their stock tanks and applying 16 lbs. of epoxy around it. lol

Not much of an update since its been a very busy schedule at work but wanted to post up something. Got a couple cool products in from AIRAID for the truck and should work great for street/track events. They call these thier Race Day filters due to not having any filter media just a wire mesh screen. Same concept as a turbo guard...

That should work way better than the turbo gourd things which are actually very restrictive. How long have they made those?

I ran the exact same fuel sump on my 03 SSS and it worked great! Just make sure you don't mount it to close to your existing fuel tank pump, you don't want it to damage or influence your fuel level sensor....Plus now you will have an easy way to drain you tank if needed....
