97 7.3 exhaust back pressure question

97 7.3 exhaust back pressure question
when i baught the 7.3, the exhuast was dumped just after the front seat.
Sounds nice but iv heard that im having bad backpressure which may be hurting the truck.
Im thinkin of just puting a turndown where its dumped.
Is this bad? Should i extend the pipes all the way to the back?
