Had 168,000 on my 5.3 with a 100 shot cam and full bolt ons and ran fine. Had some valvetrain issues and a bad oil leak that I think took out my engine not the miles or anything. Ill find out this weekend for sure when I tear down the 5.3

I was wondering the same exact thing. I have a 90 gmc sierra with 154k miles and i was interested in throwing the hose to it. I dont want to go over a 75 shot at the most; however, if i do this it will be with a holley double pumper carb in place of the tbi.

Ok so your running a carb on your 89 truck? I want to swap mine over to a carb, I was just wondering what all i need to do besides buying the intake, carb, hei distributor, and lockup kit for the 700r4 tranny.

i dont have the truck anymore. it had a tbi on it. nos makes a plate kit that goes under the factory throttle body. i wouldnt change it over to carb unless you plan on putting a cam in it and a real good intake on it while your at it
