the limits are the nitrous lol. some people blow them on stock motors. others go years with bolt on 6 liters.

my buddy sprayed a 250 shot on a bolt on 01 ss camarowith 96k miles for almost a year beatin the hell out of. stock converter, stock tranny. finally 3rd and 4th gear went out. granted its lighter then a truck. but it was fast and got sprayed daily

I would throw a huge trans cooler on there (trucool 40k is a popular choice, around $120) esp with a converter, and leave a good amount of tq management in there if you're tuning it.

Beating on a stocker could cause it to fail, you don't need to beat too hard either. It's a gamble, many have run a long time on the stock trans, others have failed early.

good luck!

my truck had been used 4 years with a huge trailer behind on a complete stock tranny, after that i wanted more power so i installed a corvette servo, shift kit HD2, converter at 2800, 4.10`s and 125 shot, never had a problem so i installed headers, cam, bigger converter (3000) 150 shot and then after 2 weeks it stoped shifting into 2nd

Look at the Trans-Am in my sig... I went 3 years in the mid 10's on a stock 4L60e that had 113,000 miles when i sold it and it still runs now, a good friend has ran almost 9's in a stock T5 in a mustang.. Rare...yes...but its all in how you drive and know the limits of what a tranny(manual or auto), can and cant do.. You can give a dumb*** a "bulletproof" tranny and he can and will tear it up!!

1. Keep it cool and fluid changed.
2. Avoid those 20-30mph downshifts from OD or lockup all the way down to 1st gear. That is Hell on the internals and is taking life each time.
3. Use a window switch and dont spray through the shifts
4. Use common sense

Hope this helps some friend and good luck.

X2 on the 40k. Heat kills the trannys. Start saving for a new tranny so your not without transportation for too long.

Quick advice. I bought all the parts for my 60e build and had someone local build it. Wish I bought the stage 6 from Finish line. 2k miles later it died and 5 weeks later I still dont have my truck back. .. I added it up and spen over $3k+ with the parts, build labor costs and verter just for it to die.

yes i was thinking about saving up for a new trans...

but so it seems that i have a huge gamble on the trans taking a small shot, but im think if if throw the cooler in there and dont spray thru the shifts i should be okay until i can save up for a built tranny. i dont plan on spraying it all the time, at most a couple of times a month. if that.

My stock tranny lived through 100k and lots of 100 shot spray passes, then I put in a beast sunshell and corvette servo's in only, all clutches looked good. After that an easy 40 bottles of 150 shot spraying through the shifts and 150k total before it started to slip.

i didnt risk mine. I had ~45k on my stocker, and as soon as I knew I wanted to spray, I got it built so I know I am covered.
