With 500hp he won't have to worry about the 6l80 breaking or even a converter. I ran and still run a stock converter and 6l80. And that's with a turbo 5.3 setup a turbo 6.2 setup and now my 427 on bottle.

For a $5k budget and 500hp all day long order up a Trick or KB Racing front mount 72 turbo kit some FAST 85lb injectors and get a good tune. Your truck a flex fuel truck? Hopefully it is and you won't have to worry about a fuel pump. If you have some cash left do a isky triple 12 cam and be done. You will have a nice truck that will do 500 very easy all day long and drive like factory with a little more pep in its step.

Why would a 230+ duration cam be shitty? I have a 236 cam and I daily it with a stock converter. Drives really good and I'm picky as hell. Your forgetting his truck is a 6 speed but most importantly has the new faster ECM unlike the older body style trucks. These new ECMs make running these bigger cams drive great.
