Default Checking in from N.Florida

Hi guys. Been utilizing this site for a while now and decided it was time to do more than read. Spent a lot of time in the past on some other forums (ffcars.com mostly), but my truck is my only toy these days so here we are. Quick backstory: I'm a former race mechanic and am now an airport fire fighter. Life long horsepower ***** with a sordid automotive past, but one that has never been without a fullsize chevy.

The ride started with a 1993 Indy 500 Pace Truck replica. Skittles as it was dubbed in high school served me well and is still in the family though it deserved much better than the fate it suffered when being handed over to the harbinger of destruction that is my older brother.

In 2004 I had been working in racing for a couple years and decided it was time for something fast. Wanted a Corvette, but needed to be able to haul a motorcycle. I was spending a lot of time on ebay back then and found myself driving to Texas to pick up a slammed and supercharged 2002 RCSB Silverado. It's sitting in the yard right now, but looks a little bit more like an adult drives it these days..

A few months ago I found myself shuttling the tiny human I made far more frequently than expected and decided it was time for a little more room. I narrowly missed the unicorn (2500hd ext cab with the 8.1) and then realized a crew cab would fit my needs better. That ruled out a 2500. Instead I lucked into a 2004 Sierra SLT CCSB Z71. Bought it from the original owner who had already lifted it 6 inches with 35s on 18x10s, a roller tonneau cover and a decent sounding exhaust. He also had a huge file with all the maintenance records, window stickers etc. I love guys like that.
It's not perfect, but it looks the business and I like not being stressed out about a scratch or ding anymore.

I have a set of 4.88s to slap in shortly and am eyeballing some Nitto Dura Grapplers to smooth things out from the Trail Grapplers ( why are they SOO heavy?!) and hopefully give me at least a couple mpg. I am debating if I want to yank the Vortech blower off the '02 and pop in there, but I have been fairly distracted with researching what I need to swap in a ZF 6 speed from the Duramax. Hopefully the gears will occupy me for awhile since the ZF isn't in the budget for some foreseeable time.

How it sits now. Not as stylish I admit, but much more useful.
