Cool CarAudioChris: Hello from Stillwater, OK

Hello, my name is Chris Brinkley. I am a car enthusiast that lives in Stillwater, OK. I have a friend that told me about this forum and so I thought I would check it out. For a living, I work at Q Logic Enclosures and Hooker Audio.

Talking with other people about their vehicles, mostly about car audio is what I like the most. If you have any car audio questions feel free to ask. I have been in the industry for over 14 years and just love talking about it.

Hope to get to know you all more and grow in the community. Thanks for checking this out!

Welcome to the sight. What do you know about the Thin JL subs. I'm slowly putting together a new setup. Right now I have some focal 6.5 fx components for up front and some focal c3 650's for the rear doors. Also have a JL 900/5 amp. I was thinking about replacing the factory sub in the center cons to one of the 10" JL thin subs. That way I don't have anything under the rear seats. I'm not look to be super loud just some quality sound. I was also reading on one of the forms where you can tie into the factory Bose deck and use there outputs for the amp. Any thoughts on that, I thought it said that the Bose was a 5volt output.

Most of the JL Woofers are great. As long as you like the sound of them I think you will be fine. The only thing I will say is to worry about the airspace of that box. Most of the factory boxes are so tiny that aftermarket speakers just don't sound good. The issue is that you probably won't be able to find out how big it is either. Which truck is it exactly? I will try to help search.

As for the radio, you should be able to tie into it with a line output converter. You will just have to play with the gains and make sure you don't turn them up too high. If you don't have a DMM or haven't tuned an amp before you may want to ask a shop to help with that.

I have a 2010 crew cab LTZ. I will see if I can find the right up on splicing into the Bose harness. Supposedly it already has the rca pre outs in the harnes just a different plug so it only plugs into there amp.

As far as the sun goes, I figured I might have to rebuild the factory box depending on the air volume. I figure I can always measure the volume of the factory box and then add to it if needed

SilveradoSierra.com ? *UPDATED* I DID IT! solved the bose system upgrade issues : Mobile Electronics

Here the info I found on the Bose unit. What's your thoughts on it. I like the factory deck. Fit/finish is nice. Most aftermarket units look out of place to me.

You will need to tap on to the output of the Bose amp with an LOC to get the correct signal needed for an aftermarket amp. This is a challenge because you will need to know which wire is which off your amp in particular but I imagine there is a wiring diagram on here or another page somewhere on the internet.

If you were getting rid of the factory sub all together you could even run speaker wire directly into your amplifier too if you wanted to. The only issue is that if you use the sub wires you will be dealing with Chevy's crossover points and it may limit your sub.
