So is this an actual (practical) application, or just a "see what we can do"? If it's the former, I'd like to see the end product in action.

That's an awesome video, but there is something I have always wondered. What happens to all the machining "fall" (left over billet shavings). Do they get collected then sent to a aluminum recycling facility / foundry? I would hope there was some sort of reclamation process in effect for this. Just cant stand to see all of that metal not re-used.

Yup sold for scrap. Aluminum is always, or usually, separated because it brings a good bit more cashola per pound.

I work on a machine very similar to the one in the vid actually, such a fun job. I work on an Okuma 5-axis mill. That thing is sooo fast, you gotta check your pants the first time you hit cycle start on 100% rapid. all 5 axes move at the same time.

wayyy off topic but how do you like the okuma? we have one at our shop forget the exact model but 630mm pallet 4 axis horizontal 6 pallet changer. bigggg machine. speakin of big we just got in last week a mitsui seiki HU80. 800mm pallets. its the size of my living room inside haha
