Yeah, the .50bmg is supersonic with confirmed kills over a mile. He was 100 or so yards out.

A common method for understanding the actual power of a cartridge is by comparing muzzle energies. The Springfield .30-06, the standard caliber for American soldiers in World War II and a popular caliber amongst American hunters, can produce muzzle energies between 2000 and 3000 foot pounds of energy (between 3 and 4 kilojoules). A .50 BMG round can produce between 10,000 and 13,000 foot pounds (between 14 and 18 kilojoules) or more, depending on its powder and bullet type, as well as the rifle it was fired from. Due to the high ballistic coefficient of the bullet, the .50 BMG's trajectory also suffers less "drift" from cross-winds than smaller and lighter calibers, making the .50 BMG a good choice for high powered sniper rifles.
The U.S. M33 .50 BMG military load uses a 668 grain FMJ-BT bullet at a muzzle velocity (MV) of 2910 fps with muzzle energy (ME) of 12,550 ft. lbs. The U.S. M2 military load uses a 720 grain FMJ-BT bullet at a MV of 2810 fps and ME of 12,600 ft. lbs.

Actually the max effective point range for a BMG .50cal is 800 meters. Which isn't very far for using it as a sniper rifle on human sized targets. That is why military snipers use the smaller .308cal for they're sniper rifles. The BMG is used to disable vehicles and other big objects because it has a good max area range. And if you notice that big muzzle break on the end of the BMG it pushes gases, carbon, and metal shavings from the round out the sides at a rearward 45 degree angle so you want to be as close to the shooter when spotting for them. Also without that muzzle break the BMG would distruct itself in only one shot because the recoil without the muzzle break is far greater than with it.
