Default Need Help With A 1994 chevy 1500

I'm not sure if this is the right section, but here we go anyway.
A friend gave me a 1994 chevy 1500 Work Truck W/T for cheap ( FREE). It came with a 4.3,but he has swapped it out for a 97 5.7 that has been carburated. Currently it has no transmission in it and was hoping on getting some advise as to which transmission I should use. Like i said the truck electronic have been removed so it could not be a computerise type tranny.
Any help would surely be appriciated. The truck is in fair shape and the engine runs great and has excellent compression. When I say it runs great, is running it at idle for a short time.

If the truck were mine, I'd donate the 5.7 sbc to someone to use as a boat anchor. Install a 5.3 with 5 speed manual from a 99-04 truck, stand alone engine harness and aftermarket gauges.

Hmmm 1997 5.7, u talking about a 1997 corvette engine? Either way there is a reason carbs are a thing of the past.

I'm not looking to spend a ton of money on a 94 truck. All it needs is a decent tranny and it will make a very nice work truck.

I agree, but the damage has been done. I'm not sure that it is a 97 vette engine so I corrected that. He said it was,but I haven't verified it.

Pics of engine?

The cost of the carb conversion kit for a ls series engine varies but the cost or carb vs efi is not far apart. Even with efi you call still run a non electronic transmission like 700r4 or turbo trans

97 vette engine???? This guy haha. If its at 97 model it's probably a vortec 350 just put a 700r4, turbo 400, or turbo 350 and never look back, swapping to a 5.3 or 6.0 would be pointless if your just wanting a stock motor work truck, in stock form the 5.3 and 6.0 are gutless wonders. But with a few mods they wake up and run amazing
