if your wanting bragging rights go along the route of the ls7, its alot more work then just putting in an iron 6.0 bored and stroked to 408. And you can make a 408 put anywhere from 350hp to-1000hp+

The wood hauler and Rhino79 did a budget 408 build, TONS OF TORQUE, and are getting the HP numbers up as the money comes in for heads, intake and what not.

I think you could get away with a budget build with well over 450ftlbs of torque for 7,000$ EASY. That is generous. And that is less then the price of the ls7 motor.

How are you planning to use the truck? Are fuel milage.drivability or emissions a consideration?A mild 408 making about 400rwhp will probably cost you about $10,000,with someone else doing the wrenching. You could easily spend double that if cost is no object or a little over half that amount, with you doing most of the work.

Check with spdc,a site sponsor, they can hook you up with a budget 408 and ported heads. You'll need a good set of longtube headers and a custom tune. And you better look into a transmission upgrade, because that much torque in a heavy Avalanch will kill the stock tranny and G-80 differential pretty quick.

408 IRON SHORTBLOCK PACKAGE:

6.0L Iron 4.030" Bore Block
Eagle 4.000" Stroke Crankshaft
Compstar 6.125" Forged Rods
Forged Lightweight Pistons & Moly Rings
Clevitte H-Series Bearings
ARP Main Studs
Internally Balanced Rotating Assembly
Professionally Assembled Short Block (no core required)

Add this for a long block:

AFR heads
Custom grind Comp cam
Morel lifters
MLS head gaskets
ARP head bolts
chromoly pushrods
lifter trays
Rollmaster double chain
ported LS6 oil pump
front & top engine covers
all block plugs.

Complete engine is $8500. It would make over 500RWHP. I can also upgrade this to a 421 iron stroker for just $650 and your getting a Callies 4.125 crank!

We could also change out the heads and lifters to Patriots STG III and Morel lifters and save $1400.

Thanks
Dave DiLuca
