what are you running for oil clearence?

Default what are you running for oil clearence?

whats everyone run for oil clearence on 408? or high horsepower daily driven. right now it .0025 to .003 clearnce i know stock is .0021 on crank

My motor just went together, the mains ranged from just above .002" to just below .003". I don't think that the guy that dressed my crank chose those numbers, they just turned out to be good enough. I would prefer stock, but how much difference does less than .001" make? My rods were all just under .002".

On an iron block, you can get away with slightly looser clearance like those .0030" numbers....but on aluminum you'd like tighter due to the clearances growing more at temperature as compared to iron. We will not ship any aluminum engine with over .0025" main clearance. It can cause oil pressure drops to unsafe levels at temperature, which people tend to try and band-aid with thicker oil, high volume/pressure pumps, etc. It's best to do it right and not put the band-aid on the bullet hole.

I'm running .0027-.0029 mains and. 0028-.00295 on the rods in my iron 383 solid roller est 550-575fwhp
