What valve springs are these?
#1
I bought these valve springs off of a fella over on LS1 tech. He said "New LS6 springs off crate motor. No miles." So naturally I was expecting some yellow valve springs to come in the mail. I only intend to run with the xr259 or xr265 cam here soon, so they were gonna work just fine.
When the package arrived at my apt, i saw it had "PAC spring kit" hand written on one end with "new LS6 springs" written on a different side of the box. I opened up the package and saw these. You can click on the pictures for a bigger version.

They are definitely a beehive spring design with a few paint markings on them. You might be able to make out the paint in the pictures. Taking out a random sampling of the 16 valve springs, there is some orange paint on a few coils of the spring and a little blue paint on usually only the top couple coils of the spring.
I took some measurements as well using a manual dial caliper with analog gauge. Free length: 2.12" (2-1/8"), OD at bottom of spring: 1.27", OD at top of spring: 1.06"
So... what springs are these?? haha

yeah, I remembered that there were two type of LS6 springs, or so I thought. Yellow and then blue? I just wasn't sure if the blue ones were all blue, like the all-yellow, or just blue paint or what.
Guess I could talk to a shop and have them tested or whatever for pound ratings and coil bind.
Thanks for the info so far. I just wanted to have a bit more understanding before I send the seller a message asking him for clarification.

I thought that the "orange" LS6 springs were basically the same as the yellow ones, and I've also heard of "green" LS6 springs, which are also the same. To the best of my knowledge, only the "blue" or "blue stripe" LS6 springs are a little weaker than the others.

the solid blue LS6 springs cam with the "hot cam" kit. -lower lift
the solid yellow LS6 springs are good for 570 lift. They cam on the 243 heads and the gto motors (241 heads). . . . this was only on the GTOs and the Vettes, and not on the Camaro 241 heads.

well, doing a quick and dirty Google search didn't yield much. Only this post.
max lift ~.580
seat pressure: 90 @ 1.800 (installed height)
open pressure: 294 @ 1.250”
According to Scoggin Dickey, the GMPP LS6 springs available from them have the
following specs:
max lift: 0.550"
seat pressure: 120# @ 1.800" (installed height)
open pressure: 325# @ 1.250"
So who knows. I wouldn't think I would run into any issues using these springs even if they are the "lesser" specs as quoted above. The xr259 and xr265 (low lift) use pretty manageable ramp rates from what I hear.
