What else can our engines run on?

There is no shortage of oil or gas. If that were the case then we would have gas lines, like back in 74. This is just big oil companies getting fat and nothing being done about it. They say that they are updating refineries. My question is, why are they doing all of them at once. That is crap. There is no excuse other than greed that is causing this thing. Someday people will run out of money and won't be able to buy anything and the oil companies will have more money than everyone. Yikes, I hope that doesn't happen.
To me, there is only one clear alternative, and that is hydrogen. You can run your current vehicle on hydrogen just about as easy as converting it to propane.
It takes a different Injection system and probably some Oiling changes internally and it will run on it. It has been done many, many times. There have been a lot of patents for this type of technologies, and I would guess that the oil companies own most if not all of them.
They hybrids and e-85's of the world, are all stop gaps. Lets just do the deal, and get an infrastructure that can support Hydrogen and a fuel cell that won't be the Hindenburg if in an accident and we can fill our cars at our houses with water from the faucet and a converter. The exhaust is Nitrous Oxide and water vapor and that is it.
To me, it is the answer. It doens't really require all that much of a change from the engines we currently have, and we would not need any cats, or smog pumps, or EGR valves. None of that crap. Think of it. You can actually see the valve covers.
I would love to convert my 8.1 to it, but I am not an engineer. When I was 15, I read an article about a guy who took a Cadilac and converted it to Hydrogen. It was in Popular Mechanics. He sold the patent to, guess who, the oil companies for something insane like 3 million. and thought he was on easy street.
Sorry for the rant, but with 3.40/gallon fuel, I am really fed up with these companies sticking it to us.

I went to a lecture on Hydrogen for Chemistry by a leader in the field and from what he said, the problem lies in storage. You cannot reasonably store a HUGE steel walled tank full of hydrogen at 6700psi. There can be crystalline storage units that bind to a single molecule 4 times called a MOF 'metal organic f...' this way hydrogen can be stored in a plastic container at a low pressure. Another problem for this is binding energy. You have to create the structure that holds hydrogen strong enough to allow for a low pressure but also have to allow the hydrogen to be easily removed when ready to be consumed. There are for more developmental issues to be investigated than what appears on the surface like injection. Hydrogen burns differently. Hydrogen must be very very cold to store without A. a very large, high pressure tank. B. metal-organic crystalline structures and there needs to be a very high energy process (high temperatures) to force the molecules to bind with the crystals. (20 energy units for every pressure unit) if you want to research this more, research Omar Yaghi. http://www.chem.ucla.edu/dept/Faculty/yaghi.html

My truck has been down waitin on a Yank TT3000 and ive almost got the STS installed. But since the last time i filled my truck up gas has rose $0.24....... thats just stupid!!!!
This is about like the place i work at.... all this crap is goin on and no one is goin to do anything about it...
BTW.. im still stock piling .223 and .40 ammo...

If we're going to survive as the leader of the free world we're going to have to go nuclear. (Pulls up soap box)......... We have so many coal burning power generators it's killing us. Both from a fixed energy source and the resultant pollution. The gas and oil is small potatoes compared to the energy our country needs to operate industry on an average day. Transportation is only a small pie section of our country's energy needs. No new refineries for the last 30 years equals a very small side supply market. Competition from new sources must arise.
We need to come to some common agreement with the environmentalists to allow new nuke plants to be built. Let them dictate certain conditions to keep public perception that safety and the environment is the bigest concern, but make it clear that the power plants must be built and only the "where" is the option. Don't vote down proposals for nuclear plants if they arise in your locale. There are three types of plant designs. We have to choose one and stick with it as France has done. This can be done and on a pratical basis but it's going to take educating the public and giving the environmentalists no options to new plant construction. Burning fossil fuels will continue for the rest of this century, but where we go from there as a society will be up to the public, politicians, scientists and markets.
My 2 cents worth............

People would be surprised how much safer a nuke plant is then a chemical plant or any other plant for that matter. I worked in one for a year and it was MUUUUUCCCCCCHHHHHHH safer then the chemical plant I worked in. France uses alot of steam turbines for power along with nuke plants, they both are very safe and much more reliable/feasible then coal fire plants. The only energy producing method that is better is hydroelectric and well there arent rivers everywhere

what are the waste from Nuclear plants?
Ive installed a few Transformers at Nuclear power plants, but we had to go through a ton of securty everyday. And most stuff was Hush Hush, We did our job and got out.
BTW i dont know much about Nuclear plants.....

i do kinda wish i had a diesel just so i could learn how to make my own fuel...
i would say we have a good 100 years left of plentiful oil supply.. but companies know this and there is plenty of new technology that is going to come around... i mean british petroleum changed their name... id say we will be moving away from petroleum based transportation in the next 50... but id love to have my truck that long.

Wait we were talkin about alternative fuels??? huh?
