Default What does a stall converter do for a cam?

Im new to the cam thing and was wondering what a stall converter does? and what the numbers mean besides rpms. Ive heard that you dont drop as much rpms at shifts but what else? does it affect your idle?

Most cams move your power band up in the rpm, a looser converter just helps you get up into that rpm faster.

Yes, if a certain cam doesn't start to make good power untill lets say 3500, is mismatched with a converter that only stalls to 1800, it would not even be close to the power band on take off and would give up a lot of ET untill it "hits".
